Like many of our participants,I’m still exhausted and trying to recover from the 2011 Manila Game Jam. While their challenge was to make awesome games in 48 hours, the organizers’ challenge was to make sure the Jam ran smoothly. We were only partly successful; A power outage, dead internet at the critical hour, and late food were all testament to the things that we could have gone better. However, I do not think we could have asked for more excellently made games on th site. With all due respect to last year’s participants (some of whom came back this year!), this year’s crop of games was really something else, and the judges had a really difficult time deciding who would take home the grand prize.
I’d therefore like to congratulate Team Angry Robots attack (aka Lizz Buenaventura and Josh Liao) for winning the Jury Prize this year, and Team Mazelle (aka Marnielle Estrada) for winning both the Jury prize runner-up award and the Participant’s Prize award. Here are links to their games and what they’re about in their own words.
Bunnypocalypse (Team Angry Robots Attack) – The world has been taken over by rabid bunnies, and it’s your job to make it out alive! Featuring adventure game mechanics crossed with a comic interface, this is time wasting at it’s finest.
Speck (Team Mazelle) – Speck is a real time tactic action game wherein you control a tiny particle (speck) to gather around your remaining breed. Each level will feature a different objective on how to save and amass the other specks in the universe.
You can check out the rest of the games here (search for Philippines- IGDA Manila x UP ITTC). We’ll definitely be providing you with more stuff about the gamejam over the next few days, including pictures and the awesome Game Jam video made by Jay Gavarra. But for now please allow us to recuperate and reflect on this amazing collective achievement. Thanks everyone!
